SWEDISH BATTERY INNOVATIONS
FAQ
Is there any access to the electrolyte provided for inside the battery?

In the batteries which use modern calcic technology the consumption of water received from the electrolyte is minimum and no water refilling is necessary during the entire service life. Therefore, no openings with plugs or a plug unit are required inside the cover. At the same time during a warranty check or scheduled maintenance the access provided to the electrolyte facilitates the work performed by the service center specialists. It is convinient for qualitative diagnostics and more objective charging level control. VISMAR batteries provide the possibility of access to the electrolyte via the plug unit.
Where is the accumulator battery manufacture date specified?

The date of manufacturing modern accumulator batteries whose grids are made following calcic technology does not affect the battery's relaibility and service life provided that storage and operation are approriate. Note that the warranty period for the battery is provided upon purchase anyways regardless the date of manufacture. On the other hand, the production code can be useful to the warranty service center specialist in case of a warranty callout or examining the battery's technical condition. Therefore an individual production code is specified on each battery which is necessary for identification during the warranty service of the battery.
Where are VISMAR batteries produced and the production technologies developed?

Automotive, light truck, havy duty VISMAR batteries are manufactured at European EXIDE plants in Spain and Poland.
Is the battery charging mode different to AGM technology?

Modern chargers are developed taking into account the design features of a VRLA-type battery with an AGM separator. It is important to avoid overcharging when charging any lead battery. Therefore upon achieving a certain voltage level the charger must be changed into the mode of voltage stabilization and current reduction. In this case any loss of water from the electrolyte is prevented which is critical for the sealed designs using AGM technology.
Is it necessary to refill distilled water during the operation process?

No, it isn't. When the electrical equipment is properly functioning the consumption of water for the modern "calcic" battery is minimum which is sufficient for the entire service life.
What is the admissible period of battery storage without recharging?

The new battery storage period is more than 18 months without recharging provided that the storage conditions are met. In case of long-term storage during the operation it is necessary to make sure that the battery is completely charged and to control the voltage of the open circuit, avoiding discharging of more than 12.5 Volts.
What is the difference between a "gel-type" battery and a battery with an absorbed electrolyte?

VRLA-type (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) sealed batteries include batteries with bound electrolyte thickened in form of gel or absorbed in a fiberglass separator (AGM – Absorbent Glass Mat). Starter and dual purpose batteries use AGM technology and "gel" batteries have become widely common in tractional applications.
Is it rational to install a battery with greater capacity on a car?

Yes, it is, provided that the overall dimensions of the battery match with those set for the initial configuration. For example, you can set 62 AH instead of 55 AH. Generally, a battery with greater capacity also has a higher dry run current. Thus a more powerful battery possesses great reserve of reliability. Excessive increase in capacity doesn't yield a greater outcome: the complexity of installation and the possibility of undercharging during frequent travels lead to a decrease in the initial capacity and, as a result, problems with startup of the engine. If the reason is related to periodic discharges of a regular battery it is recommended to install a VRLA-type dual purpose battery such as the Exide Multifit series using the AGM technology - rather than increase the capacity.
Is it possible to replace the AGM/EFB-type battery for a standard one with liquid electrolyte?

This is strictly not advised as it will lead to premature loss of capacity. On the other hand it is allowed to put up the battery class. Despite higher cost the EFB or AGM technology battery is more reliable during operation and has an extended life.
What are the advantages and the shortcomings of the calcic technique used for manufacturing plate grids?

The key advantage of calcic alloys is high manufacturing accuracy at high output. This is the 21st century technology and every producer is determined to switch to it. The only uneliminated defect at the moment is the lack of a complete frame of a positive grid. However this concerns manufacturers of economy-class batteries. Today's European producers are using innovative methods to maintain grid stability throughout the entire service life.
